Madison, MD - The cats didn’t know there was anything wrong, but animal lovers from Caroline, Dorchester and Talbot counties decided to “fix” them anyway.  We decided to host a clinic for lower Dorchester County, because they have such a tremendous cat overpopulation there.  We had 170 cats registered from 18 different caretakers within days of deciding to host the clinic. The Madison Volunteer Fire Department graciously provided their firehouse for the base of operations and the Caroline County Humane Society brought their mobile spay/neuter clinic. A total of 4 veterinarians volunteered their surgical skills and shared the workload over the two days of surgery. Volunteers trapped the cats under the guidance of Tomcats’ Tom Ryan, staffed the clinic, cared for the cats before and after surgery, and released them afterwards. It took about 450 volunteer hours to spay/neuter the 137 cats and although everyone was tired at the end they were proud of what they’d accomplished. Dr. White, president of TomCat Solutions estimates that they prevented the birth of 300 or more kittens this summer alone.

TWO MORE CATS STILL AT THE CORDOVA SITE

As of 3/16, there still appears to be two cats left to trap at the site.  Food has been disappearing and new videos show two cats, one with a tipped ear and one which has not been fixed.  We think the tipped cat is one that came from the bridge site we relocated last year.  Traps are once again set with the video in place so hopefully we will have some updates soon.

On another note, three outdoor cats which were rescued last year from the State Park site are still in need of a barn home. These cats need to be homed together as they have been companions to one another for some time.

Now it is time to get back to business at hand, TNR

This is one of our barn-cat setups. Two rescued cats will call this home for 4 weeks while they acclimate to their new surrounding.  Then, when released, they will not run away.   If you don't allow this time for acclimation, there is no telling where they might go.
